It’s been a great year for us here at Complete Mortgage Processing. We have so much to be grateful for. What about you? Are you still fuming about the last deal that went awry or are you extracting the lessons from it to build on your next success? If you’re still fuming or complaining daily about your lenders, your co-workers, or your other business partners, you can turn things around by harnessing the power of gratitude. Yes, gratitude!
Having an “attitude of gratitude” is one of the most powerful resources in your business tool kit. Yet so many people overlook it daily. Many situations could have a completely different outcome if any one of the parties involved would shift their focus from “all that’s wrong” to “what is good right now and what will make it even better”. The next time you’re on the phone with someone who is ranting and raving like a mad person, don’t lose your cool. Think of how valuable their feedback is to your bottom line. You can say, “Thank you for bringing this to my attention.” Then ask for the opportunity to “make it right”. You’d be amazed at how much better your results will be than if you pointed the finger or just blew the person off.

Expressions of gratitude are important and long lasting. Although the years have passed, we still have fond memories of brokers who let us know in a multitude of ways how positively we impacted their business. It’s those very same individuals who know that no matter when they call, CMP will go the extra mile to lend a hand. How can you cultivate an attitude of gratitude in your business? Look for the windows of opportunity to do so and then take action. Here are a few examples:
BROKER TO LOAN OFFICER: Routinely seek out business tips and tools that will help make the LO’s job easier. Create templates, tip sheets, resource lists, or give personal development tools that can be delivered via e-mail or live at a team meeting.
LOAN OFFFICER TO PROCESSOR–Show your appreciation when your processor makes magic happen for you again and again. Send a note of appreciation to the processor and their supervisor. Spring for lunch, dinner, or a movie for 2, so that they can enjoy it with a significant other. Pick up a book on something that they’ve expressed an interest in.

PROCESSOR TO LENDER – Show your appreciation for fast responses and extra help with clearing conditions by referring new business. An easy expression of appreciation is sharing what you’ve learned about submitting clean files with others on your team.
MORTGAGE COMPANY TO BORROWER –Surprise and delight your borrowers with a “Welcome to the Xxx Mortgage Family” basket. Include items that will help them get off to a great start in their new home. Partner with other local businesses to offer valuable discounts and coupons.
As you lead by example with your expressions of gratitude, others will do the same. Soon, you’ll begin to experience the benefits of cultivating an attitude of gratitude.

Q. I’m a new contract processor. I just signed up my first new broker who would like to transmit files to me via email. Will the files that I receive need to be modified or can I work with them as they are?
A. In most instances, the file will need to be modified for one reason or another. Sometimes the file is incomplete, so you’ll need to fill in the gaps. Other times, it’s simply because your broker may download the file from an older version of the same loan origination software (LOS) you both use. When you receive the email, save the file in a location you’ll remember. Then open your LOS and upload the data to see how close it compares to what you need.
