HAPPY HOLIDAYS! If you’ve been following our time saving and revenue generating tips throughout the year, we know that you are truly enjoying this holiday season. Our e-course, audio tips, workbooks, and live training are all designed to give you the best of both worlds – a successful career AND time to do the things you love with the people you love. For those of you who are just coming on board, we’re glad to have you. You’re just in time to get a few great tips that will help you reflect on your 2005 experiences and use what you’ve learned to help you grow leaps and bounds in 2006.
This month’s topic is planning for success. Yes, success takes planning! It doesn’t just fall in your lap. If you’re serious about taking your career to the next level, you need to plan for it. You need to plan what you want to happen, when you want it to happen, and most importantly, why you want it to happen. Knowing why will help keep you focused and moving toward your goal. Here are a few tips to help you plan to be wildly successful personally and professionally:
1. DEFINE WHAT SUCCESS MEANS TO YOU. Being the top producer in your office may bring prestige and financial reward but it might also put your family life and health in jeopardy. If being top producer is your definition of success, then by all means – go for it! But don’t forget to strive for balance in your life. Take time off during the year to revitalize yourself and evaluate your progress. Don’t place unrealistic goals on yourself. As you approach each benchmark to success, consider how you might achieve the same goal with less effort or stress.
2. DECIDE WHAT GOALS YOU WILL ACHIEVE IN 2006. It’s a lot easier to get there when you know where you’re going. Set goals that are very specific and measurable. Begin with the end in mind by visualizing yourself at the moment you’ve reached your goal. Then divide that big goal into smaller mini goals that you can accomplish in 3 months, 6 months, and finally in one year. Here are a few specific goals that some of our clients have set for 2006:
- To increase my closing ratio by 20% by June 1st - To hire an in-house processor by Feb. 10th - To improve my average turn around time by 5 days - To independently process my 1st loan by Mar 15th - To open my processing business by April 1st
Pick mini goals that will help you achieve your major goal.
3. GET ACCESS TO THE RESOURCES YOU NEED TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL. If you’re going to be a top producer, you’d better have a marketing system that delivers. If you intend to process your own loans, then you need to get with someone who knows how it’s done. If you intend to shave days off of your turnaround time, then you’d better find a way to get access to the technology and resources it takes to make it happen. Study those who already achieved what you are striving for. Research how they did it.
4. Take ACTION! Don’t sit around and whine or complain about your circumstances. Do something about it! Make an investment in your future. Here are a few easy ways to do it: - Take a training class - Buy a book - Get a mentor - Join a networking group - Buy a marketing system - Explore new career opportunities - Build a website - Learn something new...
Think about your goal. Plan it and then JUST DO IT. Don’t be afraid to try. Be afraid of what your life will be life if you don’t do anything different. The first step to achieving your goal for 2006 is to believe that you can. -----------------------------------------------------------

+++++++++++++++++++++++++ QUESTION OF THE MONTH +++++++++++++++++++++++++
Q. What are some of the biggest challenges that a new loan officer typically faces?
A.. New loan officers face many challenges. However, if you’re in the right environment, most of them will be short lived. You’ll really begin to enjoy the role after getting over a few newbie hurdles:
- Learning the language - Taking a thorough application - Understanding rate sheets and program matrices - Pricing a loan
As with most things, the more you do it, the more proficient you’ll become. Working with a mentor and using supplemental training tools will help you along the way. Our Loan Processor In-A- Box™ workbook can help make the transition easier.
